Holding Vehicles
Aamcar DISCOUNT car rental will hold a confirmed vehicle for a period of one hour after the scheduled pick up time. Since rental cars in Manhattan are often all booked up, we remind our customers to call us at 800-722-6923 or 212-222-8500 in the event of a delay past one hour.
Locations
We have two locations in New York City to serve you. 315 West 96th street is located on the Upper West Side and is easily accessible with the 1, 2, 3 and 9 subway trains. If you desire to taxi in New York to our location, the fare should be between $5 and $8 from most New York hotels. If you desire to use our 181st street location (located at 506 west 181st street), you will find this in the Washington Heights area of New York City.
Debit cards
Aamcar Discount car rental gladly accepts debit cards to rent a car in NY. We are also proud that we are one of the few that continue to support debit card car rentals.We haven't quite figured out why the other car rental companies do not accept debit cards. There are some potential difficulties that can arise but to date we have managed to overcome them all.Ask us about the length of the "hold" and how to get around it by using some cash as well as the card.You should be aware that when using a debit card to rent a car, the sum taken by us as a "deposit" will not be "available" in your account for a few days after the return of the car.

Credit authorization amount
When you rent a car in New York, authorizations vary. Please ask your reservation agent how much you will need available for your particular rental.
Gas / refueling
Our rental rates do not include the cost of gasoline.We usually start you out with a full tank of gas. In order to maintain our rates in New York, we request that customers refill prior to their return. You should be aware that a refueling cost will apply if the vehicle is returned with less gas than you started out.
Personal management override
In certain circumstances "policies" do not make sense. In those cases the General manager/owner is available to see what can be done, even over-ride certain policies.

Age Requirements
Minimum Age: 23
Age 23 to 23 - Surcharge of $40.00 per day applies. Driver must have license for at least3 years with NO moving violations.
If you are 23 years old, please call our office for approval to rent. A surcharge will apply.
If you are AT LEAST 24 years old, you can rent cars, 7 passenger vans, Cargo Vans and SUV's using the published rates, however you will not be able to rent 15 passenger vans.
If you are AT LEAST 25 years of age, you can rent any vehicle INCLUDING 15 passenger vans.
Additional Drivers
2 additional drivers permitted an additional chargeof $ 3.00 applies per day(per additional driver)
Minimum Age for Additional Drivers: 24
Additional drivers must also qualify as if they are renting the vehicle themselves. This policy is open to anyone wishing to have a rental car in New York.

We allow our vehicles to be driven anywhere within a 300 mile radius of our main rental office on 96th street in Manhattan.We allow the 15 passenger vans a much wider radius. Should you desire to travel outside this radius, please get approval from an AAMCAR manager, in writing, prior to your travel
Some areas outside the 300 mile radius are not covered by our insurance and road service and for some distant destinations the discounted rates are not valid.Talk to us and we will do our best to tailor a package just right for you.

Deposit Requirements
Cash deposits are accepted. You may rent a car with a cash deposit in lieu of a credit card. Cash customers need to present proof of residence (a utility bill in your name) and proof of employment (a paystub). Because cash deposit rentals in New York require each rental agreement and reservation to be set up prior to your arrival, please call our office at 212-222-8500 before you e-mail your reservation. Cash deposit auto rentals will still enjoy the same low rental rate with no additional surcharge.

Insurance Policies and Surcharges
As of February 24th 2003, the New York state legislature has repealed the $100.00 cap on a renters financial responsibility for damage or loss to the rental vehicle. From that day on, a renter will be financially responsible for all damage or loss incurred while the vehicle is in
their custody and control, similar to other states. For an additional charge, there will be optional vehicle protection available to cover the renters financial responsibility for damage or loss to the rental vehicle. This coverage, Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is optional, and may be declined. You are advised to carefully consider whether to purchase this protection if you have rental vehicle collision coverage provided by your credit card or automobile insurance policy. Before deciding on this optional coverage, you may wish to determine whether your credit card or your vehicle insurance affords you coverage for damage to the rental vehicle and the amount of deductible under such coverage.
